Andy joined APFS in April 2000.

He started in financial services as a graduate trainee with NatWest Bank in London in October 1980.

He says .... "At school all I ever wanted to do was to study history and, my dream came true in 1976, when I went to St Andrews University. After four entertaining and inspiring years I graduated with a degree in Modern and Medieval History. Fantastic!"

"I won't bore you with the details but I hated NatWest and banking. I left in the mid 1980s and worked for two insurance companies and then a national broker (Sedgwicks) and at the same time moved from the cosy world of Home Counties suburbia to Lancashire and the NW."

"I joined NatWest Insurance Services in 1989 as a specialist pensions adviser. I initially enjoyed my time with them and rose to the dizzy heights of sales manager (based in Preston ) where I looked after a team of 65 advisers and admin staff. It all went horribly wrong from 1993 when NatWest suddenly closed the region down (not just my bit but all the banking side as well) but that's big companies for you."

"Despite NatWest's efforts I stayed with them for another seven years (doing various jobs) until I saw the light and joined the escape committee. I tunnelled under the wire and ran to freedom in April of the new millenium when I started with APFS. I should have done it years before and I now enjoy the opportunity of being able to offer a good professional service without the politics and hassle of a PLC."

"I am married to the lovely Claire and we are both delighted with and proud of our three children, Christopher, Anna and Thom."

"I enloy all the usual things - family, friendships, walking, the countryside, threatre, travel - (you know the drill) but my real passion is wargaming and military modelling. Wargaming (for those who do not know) is playing with model soldiers on a tabletop (or floor, if the table is too small) with rules that recreate the tactics, weapons and battles of yesteryear. The modelling side is extremely relaxing and so different from the day to day. My pride and joy is a fleet of 160 1/1200 scale model warships from WW2. Claire says I'm a GEEK and an ANORAK and, you know, she's probably right."

Andy is an MA, a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institue and a Chartered Financial Planner. He is a pensions and investment specialist and provides independent advice for a large number of group pension schemes.

Andy's comment on his life and career so far ..... "It's all part of growing up and being British!"
